Shri Kabir Mansur
Atharva Ved Mundak Upanishad 1 – 4
& 5
‘There are two types of Knowledge,
described by the Knowledgeable Ones as Paraa and Aparaa. (4)’
Of these two, (the 4 vedas) - Rig
Ved, Ayurved, Saam Ved, Atharva Ved, and (the 6 Shastras) Shiksha, Kalp,
Vyaakaran, Nirukt, Chhand and Jyotish, altogether, are called ‘Aparaa’(lower);
and that knowledge, by which the Supreme Being (Sat Purush) is realized, is
called ‘Paraa’ (higher). (5)
DISCUSSION
Looking
at the above two statements, I gather that all literature, whether it be of
mundane or spiritual category, can be safely relegated to the area of ‘lower
knowledge’ – this will include all information, received through our sense-perception organs – eyes,
ears, touch, taste and smell.
The
last part of the second statement infers that there exists another medium of
extra-sensory knowledge (not literary) - ‘higher knowledge’ through
which we can have information of our true origin !
